Playing our first regular-season matches of the year, Deerfield took the long road trip to Greenwich, CT on Saturday, emerging with a victory over Sacred Heart (2-0) but falling to BB&N (1-2). On Wednesday, September 27th, the boys junior B footballers faced local rival Eaglebrook School on a beautiful fall afternoon on the lower fields. On Wednesday, Deerfield traveled to Loomis for a rematch of last year’s class A championship match. Loomis played well, but unfortunately Deerfield could not find enough consistency across all phases of the match and lost in straight sets, 0-3. Despite the oppressively hot afternoon, Deerfield JV Field Hockey came out on top in our game against Northfield Mount Hermon today. Most of the game’s action took place in the first quarter. Deerfield’s JV Field Hockey played perhaps its most competitive game of the season so far against St. Paul’s on this drizzly Saturday in early October. After a few days at practice of working on fundamentals and expanding our repertoire, Deerfield traveled to Williston for a Wednesday match, earning a 3-0 victory over the Wildcats.   On an unseasonably warm day, Deerfield brought their own heat to the gym as all players saw court time throughout the match. On a rainy Saturday, Deerfield continued its travels by heading to Concord, NH to play St. Paul’s and came away with a 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-17, 25-17). Without a couple of players due to them taking the SATs, Deerfield initially struggled to get into a rhythm against the Big Red serve before Sabina Frosk ‘24 and Zoe Galaburda ‘26 started to provide the passing throughout the match that allowed Deerfield’s offense to get going. On October 18th, led by a super hat trick by Matias Cushman ’25, the boys junior B footballers defeated Avon Old Farms 6-3 in Avon, CT and raised their record on the season to 4-0. This matchup has traditionally been a back-and-forth affair in the past, with each team winning close matches in recent years, but Deerfield immediately left no doubt as to the outcome of this one.
