This Saturday, JV field hockey made the long bus ride to face off against Hotchkiss’s plucky and persistent squad. Despite the day being dreary and the grass being soggy, Deerfield still managed to come out on top, winning 3 – 1. Lexi Rohan ‘25 had an excellent offensive performance, scoring two of our three goals. She scored her first goal off of a quick and controlled insert from Charlotte Steffensen ‘25 and her second with mere seconds left in the game on another assist from Steffensen. Melody Zhao ‘26 was our other goal scorer. She swept the ball decisively into the goal off a beautiful right cross from Sophie Simonds ‘26 in the second quarter. This goal was Melody’s first!! What an exciting moment! Josephine Cramer ‘24 was another player of note. She powered our defensive effort, dominating our defensive end and never failing to hustle back to help her teammates. Lalwani Surpitski ‘26 also played an aggressive and quick defensive game, even after suffering an injury mid-game. While the aforementioned players were key to Deerfield’s success, our win was a team effort through and through. Despite a constant rotation of players, DA’s midfield and offensive lines spent the game operating as a unit, making accurate passes, using the right corner, communicating, and working hard to create scoring opportunities for one another. Even those on the sidelines were engaged and bringing the energy throughout the game. Nothing makes us coaches happier! We’re looking forward to our next game on Saturday 9/30, home v. Exeter.
