Despite the oppressively hot afternoon, Deerfield JV Field Hockey came out on top in our game against Northfield Mount Hermon today. Most of the game’s action took place in the first quarter. Deerfield scored first off of a dramatic aerial shot by Campbell Ardrey ‘26, assisted formally by Charlotte Steffensen ‘25, although the goal came after a series of skillfully executed passes starting with left back Josephine Cramer ‘24, up to left midfielder Linnea Dreslin ‘24, then to left forward Lexi Rohan ‘25, finally making its way to Steffensen, to Campbell, to the cage. NMH answered the goal only a few minutes later after a period of scrappy play in our defensive circle, and a handful of saves by keeper Sarah Hanks ‘25. Motivated by the even score, DA’s forwards got to work. With less than a minute left in the quarter, Lila Church ‘25 sent a well-placed ball toward the cage that Rohan tipped in for the goal. The final goal of the game came midway through the final quarter. Lalwani Surpitski ‘26 bombed down the left side of the field, taking the ball right to the cage, where her shot deflected in past the NMH keeper. We’re excited to hit the field again, this time in cooler weather, on Saturday at St. Paul’s.
