After a week off, Deerfield was hungry for our game at Loomis this Saturday. Before the first whistle, Loomis and Deerfield got to spend a special moment together honoring National Coming Out Day. We took a few minutes to actively reflect on the importance of belonging on our teams, and to consider how we might leverage the power we have as athletes to make our campuses more accessible and inclusive to the LGBTQ+ community. Our team works hard to foster an inclusive, positive, and supportive atmosphere, so we felt grateful to be included in this pre-game ceremony. The game itself was scrappy and marked by players from both teams slipping and sliding on the damp grass field. Nonetheless, Deerfield came out on top. In the first quarter, Lexi Rohan ‘25 scored two goals, one assisted by Sophie Simonds ‘26, the other by Charlotte Steffensen ‘25. Emily Bruno ‘25 also scored, assisted by Lila King ‘24. In the second quarter, Linnea Deslin ‘24 had an unassisted goal and Audrey Steffensen ‘26 scored her first Deerfield goal off of a feed from Melody Zhao ‘26. In the third quarter, we saw two more goals from Bruno ‘25, the first assisted by Simonds ‘26 and the second unassisted. Alana McDonough ‘27 also scored her first Deerfield goal off of an assist from Ellora Devitre ‘26. In the final quarter, Charlotte Steffensen ‘25 scored the last goal of the game. The final score was 9-1. Chloe Xue ‘25, Alva Fink ‘25, and Esther Lee ‘25 also had fabulous defensive performances. We face off against the fierce Westminster squad at home this Wednesday.
