Although the day was gray, the DA JV Field Hockey team’s play against Exter was red hot, winning 1-0. We started the game with our usual speed and intensity, scoring early off a shot by Lexi Rohan ‘25, assisted by Charlotte Steffensen ‘25. Forwards Lila King ‘24, Emily Bruno ‘25, Campbell Ardrey ‘26, Melody Zhao ‘26, Ellora Devitre ‘26, Alana McDonough ‘27, Lalwani Surpitski ‘26, Steffensen, and Rohan put in a cohesive team effort to create a number of other suspenseful scoring opportunities throughout, although a scrappy Exeter defense held us at one goal for the rest of the game. Linnea Knox ‘27 had a stellar game at center back, staying cool, calm, and collected despite some serious offensive pressure from the Exeter squad. Our sweepers Edie Huffard ‘25 and Penley Day ‘25 also had some big plays today to keep Exeter’s forward line out of our circle. And, as always, captains Linnea Dreslin ‘24 and Josephine Cramer ‘24 held steady on the left side of the field, shutting down Exeter’s strong side. While the score was close, it felt as though the Deerfield squad dominated the game. We’re hoping to hear the ball hit the back of the net again, and more often, in our game at NMH this Wednesday.
