On Wednesday, Deerfield traveled to Loomis for a rematch of last year’s class A championship match. Loomis played well, but unfortunately Deerfield could not find enough consistency across all phases of the match and lost in straight sets, 0-3.
Loomis came out ready to play and, coupled with some initial errors from Deerfield, allowed the Pelicans to get out to a lead that stretched as large as 16-4. At that point, Deerfield started to find a little more rhythm defensively with passing from Sabina Frosk ‘24 and Loran McGruder ‘24 as well as middle attacks from Harmoni Dobbins ‘26 and Sophie Kamil ‘26. Loomis was able to take the set 25-18.
In the second set, good serving and defense from Loomis led to Deerfield difficulty in siding out. Loomis got out to a 14-1 early lead and cruised to a 25-10 set score.
In the third frame, Deerfield setters Greta Trapp ‘25 and Charlotte Coody ‘26 distributed the ball well, pin hitters Evie Mokarow ‘24 and Evelyn Kunde ‘26 got solid swings, and Margot McAuliffe ‘24 and Georgia Bell ‘25 put up blocks that allowed Deerfield to play competitively with Loomis, eventually ending with a set score of 25-17.
Thanks to Loomis for hosting.
We next travel just up the road to NMH for a Friday afternoon match up; first serve is scheduled for 4:45 pm.
