February & March Travel

Deerfield student-athletes participate in various athletic trips throughout the course of the year. These trips are optional experiences for coaches and teams, and they typically take place during the preseason period. The purpose of athletic trips is to provide student-athletes with an opportunity to develop their skills practice as a team, and share experiences in advance of the upcoming season.

Swimming and Diving

Florida, February 1–5, 2024

The Varsity Swimming & Diving team travels to Florida during the Long Winter Weekend break in February for several days of team training and camaraderie.  Swimmers and divers from both the girls team and the boys team look forward to the opportunity to travel and train together. The team views the experience as an important bonding opportunity that prepares them for success at the NEPSAC Championship, which takes place in early March.

After Swimmers and Divers conclude classes on Thursday, they will depart campus to fly to Florida. They will spend three days training outdoors in the International Swimming Hall of Fame pool in Fort Lauderdale. In addition to rigorous workouts, the team will enjoy time at local beaches and restaurants.

Baseball

Florida, March 10–17, 2024

Deerfield Baseball travels to Florida to train at IMG Academy in Bradenton each March.  IMG provides a premier training experience in a picturesque setting.  Athletes and coaches reside on-site and enjoy most of their meals in IMG’s expansive dining hall, which is incredibly convenient.  IMG is an all-inclusive training venue, featuring several batting cages, an extensive fitness and weight-training center, and ample turf fields for practices and games.  Our baseball team enjoys their time on the IMG campus, and truly makes the most of their week of training.

Boys & Girls Rowing

Florida, March 10–17, 2024

The Boys and Girls Rowing teams will travel to Orlando, FL during our March spring break for a week of preseason training.  The primary purpose of this trip is to engage in the necessary training for a successful spring season, but the true value lies in the opportunities for the team to begin developing their shared goals and values, to have conversations with one another that time or schedule might not permit while on campus, and to establish a standard of behavior and accountability that will support a positive and productive season.  Much of each day will be committed to training, however there will be time for team activities that are social and fun while also providing opportunities for student leadership and reflection.

Boys Lacrosse

Florida, March 11–17, 2024

The Boys Lacrosse team has traveled to various locations for their annual preseason trip, including IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in California.  This year’s trip destination is planned to be in both Delray Beach and Orlando, FL.

The team will enjoy sunshine, premier training facilities, and superb competition. Players participate in two practices each day and leave plenty of time for shared experiences and leadership development.  After about a week, the team returns to Deerfield with an increased sense of community and excitement for the upcoming season–historically one of the most challenging schedules in all of New England.

Girls Lacrosse

Florida, March 11–17, 2024

The Deerfield Girls Lacrosse team will travel to Orlando, Florida to participate in the HoganLax training program this year. Training will take place primarily at the Boombah Sports Complex, and Deerfield will have the opportunity to play other prep schools as well as local teams in Florida.  Additionally, the trip fosters an important opportunity for shared experiences in advance of the official season.

Girls Water Polo

California, March 12–17, 2024

The girls’ water polo will be California Dreamin’ this March with a training trip to the Bay Area, renewing Deerfield connections dating back to 2007. The team will hone their basic skills and game awareness in double sessions from Wednesday to Saturday, playing in the outdoor pool at Sacred Heart School in Atherton, CA. Other highlights may include a stroll across the Golden Gate Bridge and a wander through Sausalito, a possible opportunity to see a former DA player in action on the Santa Clara University Women’s team, and evenings spent together in one another’s delightful company.  Beginners are more than welcome to join the trip.

Golf

South Carolina, March 12-17, 2024

The Deerfield golf team is thrilled to announce our upcoming trip to Kiawah Island, South Carolina, one of the world’s most renowned golf destinations. During our stay, we will have the privilege of playing at two exceptional private facilities – The River Course and Cassique. These courses are renowned for their challenging layouts and top-notch practice amenities, which will allow us to sharpen our skills in preparation for the upcoming season. In addition to these courses, we will also have the opportunity to play The Ocean Course at Kiawah, a public course that is on every golfer’s must-play list! Throughout our stay, our team and coaches will be residing in close proximity to the courses, sharing meals and bonding as we gear up for the season ahead.
