  • Caroline is entering her third season as the head coach of the Girls’ Varsity Basketball program after serving two years as the assistant to the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team. Before arriving at Deerfield, Caroline was a varsity standout for the women’s basketball program at Amherst College. Throughout her four years, Caroline helped lead Amherst to four “Final Four” appearances as well as the 2011 Division III National Championship. She left Amherst the most decorated player in program history, earning All-American honors during her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns and being named the Division III National Player of the Year her senior season.

Caroline is a native of Walpole, Massachusetts where she was a three-sport captain in soccer, basketball and lacrosse at Walpole High School. At Deerfield, she is also an Associate Director of Admission and dorm resident of Shumway.

  • In 2002 Julie graduated from Middlebury College, where she earned her BA cum laude in English, played varsity basketball for two years, and worked as an editor for the college newspaper. Julie then began her teaching career at Blair Academy. During her five years at Blair, Julie taught English and AP Art History, coached basketball and golf, advised the school newspaper and yearbook, and served as a sophomore academic monitor. In the summer of 2007, Julie finished her MA from the Bread Loaf School of English and then taught for a year at the Browning School in New York City before joining us at Deerfield. Since arriving at Deerfield, Julie has served as a Scroll advisor, peer tutors advisor, girls varsity basketball coach, assistant academic skills coordinator, and Penn Fellows program mentor. She is thrilled to be back in the classroom full-time teaching in the English Department. Julie lives in Stebbins House with her husband, Mike, who also teaches English, their two sons, Carter and Macrae, and their dog, Brady.
