Soccer (Girls): Varsity vs. Brooks School (09/11/24 4:00 PM)

Event Details

On a beautiful sunny clear day, Deerfield girls varsity soccer traveled to Brooks School for their season opener. From the opening kick off the Big Green were excited to put their training to the test against their first opponent. The opening minutes of the game were back-and-forth as the teams exchanged possession in the middle of the field while their nerves settled. As the half progressed, the Big Green settled into their rhythm, largely influenced by Minjoo Serhant ’17, and created several goal scoring opportunities, highlighted by Cori Scagel’s ’25 rocket shot from the top of the 18 that forced the Brooks goalkeeper to make a heroic save. The next opportunity came from a through ball played to Eva Bramwell ’26 who went 1v1 with the goalkeeper who again made another fabulous save. The Big Green regrouped at half time and entered the second half recharged and eager to score the first goal of the game. Brooks controlled the play to start the second half however, they were met by a solid Big Green defense who thwarted off any of their attempts to score. Again in the second half, the Big Green continued to gain momentum as the half progressed and created several goal scoring opportunities with midfielder Meryl Gilbert ’27 seeking out through balls into the 18 yard box. The Big Green pressed until the final minute of play that ended with a Big Green corner kick. At the final whistle, the score remained 0-0. There were lots of goal scoring opportunities created by several Big Green players and the Big Green defense anchored by senior captains Ellie Schiller, Alex Hermsdorf and Allie Corrieri along with Keira Austen ’26, Ava Carvel ’25 and Blythe Gering ’27 helped earn the first shut out of the season for the Doors. The Big Green will return to action this Saturday at Milton. Kick-off is set for 3:30pm.
