Tennis, Girls

The girls varsity tennis team has yet to experience a losing season, compiling a career record of 233 wins and only 53 losses. For years the performance of the team at the season’s end de Villafranca tournament included multiple first places and runner-up positions.  We now compete in the Class A Division of the NEPSAC sanctioned team tournament. Our success comes from our depth. Most of the players compete in other sports during the year. Our top seniors have gone on to not only play at the collegiate level, but also to earn “Rookie of the Year” status in programs at Colby, Hamilton, Georgetown, and Johns Hopkins. Some have earned captaincies at colleges that include Harvard, Skidmore, St. Lawrence, Hamilton, Middlebury, Trinity, and Bowdoin.  Honors gained at Trinity College included MVP, All-NESCAC, and Academic and Collegiate All-American Scholar. It has been exciting and encouraging to see the quality of

Deerfield’s campus offers 21 “no fault,” medium-speed hard courts, 18 of which surround our traditional pagoda on the low level. Our newly completed pavilion – named after Jay and Mimi Morsman, a longtime coach/faculty member and a former Director of Alumni Relations, respectively – covers six of these lower courts and allows for year-round play. During winter months, the sides of the pavilion will be closed to keep the snow and cold outside. This facility provides ample space and opportunity for students to enjoy the game of tennis.

Girls tennis at Deerfield is coached by Christian Austin. For more information about the program, please contact Coach Austin.
