  • Coach Houston comes to Deerfield wrestling from Cardigan Mountain School, where he coached a New England Junior Prep championship program. Prior to Cardigan, he coached at Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland. He’s a New Hampshire native and wrestled Class L varsity in high school. In lieu of college athletics, Coach Houston served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including two deployments between 2001 and 2003; he’s a graduate of the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and the School of Infantry. At DA, Coach Houston is a teacher of classics (Greek and Latin), and he believes that the ancient sport of wrestling embodies a timeless ideal: to strive always for excellence. Excellence, in turn, is attained by practicing the three pillars of the sport—discipline of mind and body, determination in spirit, and dedication to oneself, one’s community, and one’s heritage.

Coach Houston lives in Scaife II with his wife and daughter.

  • David earned a bachelor’s degree in history (UMass), masters degrees in Historic Preservation (University of Vermont) and architecture (University of Miami), and a PhD in design (Clemson University). After working for a variety of preservation organizations and architectural firms and teaching part-time at the Boston Architectural College, he began teaching full-time in 2007 at the American College of the Building Arts in Charleston, SC. David’s time in Charleston also included new design and preservation projects as well as teaching as an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston and Clemson University. He grew up in Agawam, MA and is excited to return to beautiful western Massachusetts. He lives in Louis Marx dorm with his wife, Beverley, and sons George, Charlie, and Henry.
