Deerfield Wrestlers New England Championship Bound after Top 5 Individual Results at Class A Championships

On Saturday, Deerfield varsity wrestling competed in the 2019 New England Class A Wrestling Championships. As a team, the Big Green finished the event in 8th place and four Deerfield wrestlers had top five performances. Furthermore, three wrestlers qualified to compete at this weekend’s New England Championships hosted by Green Farms Academy.

In the 132 lb weight class, Hugo Nutting ’22 finished in 5th place and qualified to compete at New Englands.

Junior co-captain Chris Thagard also placed fifth at the Class A Championships in the 160 lb division.

Deerfield wrestlers, Marcus Romboli ’20 and Quinn Downie ’20 went head-to-head in the 285 lb division in the consolation final. Both first-year wrestlers for the Big Green, Marcus finished in third and Quinn in fourth place at the event. Marcus will continue his wrestling season at the New England Championships.

John Chung ’20 also qualified for New England’s in the 120 lb division.
