Boys Hockey Registers Five Goals for the Win

In yesterday’s match-up with visiting Taft, the Deerfield boys varsity hockey team netted goals in each period for a game total of five goals and the victory over the Rhinos.

Mikey Holland ’19 notched the first goal of the game and his 13th of the season to open the scoring at the end of the first period, assist to Tomas Zourikian ’19.

In the second period, Mikey doubled the Big Green lead when he scored an unassisted goal. Pierce Patterson ’21 scored the team’s third goal of the game, assisted by Noah de la Durantaye ’19 and Alex Robert ’20. At the end of the second period, the Big Green led the Rhinos 3-0.

The Big Green continued adding to the scoresheet in the third period, in the opening five minutes Alton Machen ’20 netted the team’s fourth goal on assists from Kyle Patton ’21 and goaltender Thomas Gale ’19.

Between the pipes, Thomas Gale ’19 was perfect for the Big Green making 25/25 saves in the first two periods.

With just over three minutes left to play in the game, the visiting Rhinos pulled their goalie, which paid off as they were able to sneak one by Deerfield goalie, Justin Prete ’20 in a 6 x 5. Justin was strong in goal down the stretch, making 4/5 saves to help preserve the win.

Mikey Holland ’19 scored his third goal of the game on an empty net (assist: Tomas Zourikian) to complete his hat-trick and round-out the Big Green score sheet.

The final score of the game was 5-1 in favor of the Doors. With the win, the team improves their season record to 13-7-1.
