Charles Cummings (faculty, otolaryngology – head and neck surgery; oncology, 1991-present), of Reisterstown, Maryland, has been named a recipient of the 2016 Walter Reed Distinguished Achievement Award, the highest honor bestowed by the alumni association of his medical school alma mater, The University of Virginia, and the University of Virginia Medical School Foundation. Now a distinguished service professor, Cummings served as director of Johns Hopkins’ Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck surgery from 1991 to 2003, chief of staff for The Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1997 to 1999, interim director of orthopaedics from 2011 to 2013 and executive medical director/ vice president of Johns Hopkins Medical International. He remains on the board of directors of Johns Hopkins Medicine.
