Our classmate, Charles R. (Chuck) Parsons passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2016, due to lingering health issues. Chuck attended Deerfield from 1953-55, and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1959. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army until 1962 when he joined his family insurance agency and served the insurance industry with distinction as a Certified Insurance Counselor for the next 40 years. He became president of the Professional Insurance Agents of New York between 1975-76, and was awarded PIANY’s Committee Chairman of the Year award in 1970. Following Chuck’s footsteps, his son, John, will be installed in September as President of the PIANY, the family’s third generation of presidents in the organization! Chuck leaves behind his wife, Elfriede Anna, two sons, Robert and John, a daughter, Kristin, and six grandchildren.
Chuck led a full life as he related in his 25th Anniversary Dartmouth yearbook: “Boating, tent camping, and fishing on Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes are principal pastimes in the Summer. Light reading, an Apple computer, and Syracuse University sports occupy the balance of our leisure time in Central New York. I have been incredibly well blessed!”

As a member of the Alumni Association, do I have dues?

There are no membership fees or dues for members of the Deerfield family, but Deerfield does ask for assistance in a few areas. First of all, in order for Deerfield to have the most up-to-date records possible, we encourage members to keep us apprised of their current contact info. Alumni are also urged to direct all concerns and suggestions regarding Deerfield’s operations through the Executive Committee, the governing body of the Alumni Association. The committee acts as the voice of the alumni body, and works closely with the school administration. In order to keep tuition affordable and the quality of a Deerfield education at its highest, the Academy depends upon the continuing support of alumni and their families. This support can take the form of annual or capital gifts, or time spent volunteering on behalf of Deerfield.

How can I network with other alumni in my area?

As a Deerfield alum, am I invited to campus athletic events and performances?

Of course! Be sure to read the latest issue of From Albany Road in your email’s in-box for current news of what is happening on campus. As we also send out periodic invitations, it’s always best to make sure we have your current physical address. And if you do plan on visiting campus, why not tell us ahead of time?
