A return to Deerfield

I very much enjoyed returning to Deerfield in January for the Alumni hockey weekend and seeing the many changes that have happened since my time there.
Since West Palm Beach has one of the best rinks on the East Coast andI have continued skating, I had the temerity to sign up to play and arrived with Rick Copeland as my wingman early on Sat morning. I was gratified to see a large turnout of past players, in fact large enough that it thankfully required the formation of two contests, saving me the possible embarrassment of coming up against some of the more recent NHL level returnees. Survived unscathed, got a goal and enjoyed every minute.
I remember well carrying in the pipes as the rink was built and Bob Merriam’s eagerness to finally have a rink. The plans for the new complex are very grand and should ensure a continuation of the game’s great success at Deerfield. All in all, very nice to be back, even if it was in January!
