Summer CSGC Grant Update: Community Empowerment Essay Competition

A large portion of the Ugandan people are currently living in poverty or extremely poor living conditions. Because of this I along with partners from Uganda decided to come together to figure out a way to begin helping these communities. In the end we decided to look to the future, through the eyes of the children, the ones who will shape Uganda’s future. We plan on holding an essay competition where students will pitch their ideas about ways to improve their own communities. By asking and involving these students in changing, hopefully improving their lives we hope to empower them while at the same time bolster their sense of community. I will be traveling to Uganda this July to help students as they write their essays in the Community Empowerment Essay Competition.  We will work to making the winning proposal a reality in any way we can.
