Track & Field Wrapped up 2019 at New England Preparatory School Track & Field Association Division I Championships

The Deerfield varsity track and field team concluded their 2019 season at the season culminating New England Preparatory School Track & Field Association Division I Championships hosted by Loomis Chaffee School on Saturday, May 18.

The Big Green girls team was paced by newcomer Jaxon Palmer ’22. Jaxon tallied six points for the Big Green with her third place finish in the javelin (105-08) and also ran the opening leg for the girls 4×100 meter relay team who placed seventh (52.91). Another Big Green newcomer, Ismay Anderson ’22 also racked up points for the Doors; scoring two points with scoring finishes in two events. Ismay finished sixth in the 100 meter dash (12.91) and the 200 meter dash (26.97).

Izzy Hamlen ’20 cleared 8-06 feet in the pole vault to finish in fifth place and earned two points overall. Kaelene Spang ’19 finished sixth in the javelin throw (97-07); tallying another point for the Big Green.

In total, the Big Green squad earned 15 top-20 finishes at the championship event and finished in tenth place overall.

NEPSTA Division I Championship – Girls Results:

4 x 100 Meter Relay: 7th – Jaxon Palmer, Mufaro Mazambani, Aoife Bruce, and Ismay Anderson (52.91)

100 Meter Dash: 6th – Ismay Anderson (12.91)

1500 Meter Run: 10th – Grace Russell (5:13.90) & 18th – Jean Jin (5:41.80)

200 Meter Dash: 6th – Ismay Anderson (26.97)

800 Meter Run: 17th – Grace Russell (2:42.25)

300 Meter Hurdles: 14th – Mina Liang (54.58)

3000 Meter Run: 12th – Jane Mallach (12:52.37)

Discus Throw: 11th – Erin DeMarco (84-00.50)

Javelin Throw: 3rd – Jaxon Palmer (105-08) & 6th – Kaelene Spang (97-07)

Long Jump: 13th – Ella Foulkes (13-10.50)

High Jump: 9th – Mina Liang (4-08.00) & 11th – Ella Foulkes (4-06.00)

Pole Vault: 5th – Izzy McDonald (8-06.00)

In the boys championship, Teddy McCarthy ’20 championed the pole vault event, clearing 13 feet for the win and edged out vaulters from Choate and NMH for the gold medal. With his first place finish, Teddy earned ten points for the Big Green.

Post-graduate student-athlete, Quinton Quirrenbach blazed the way for the Big Green in the track events by placing in two events. Quinton finished second in the 100 meter dash (11.33) and was fourth in the 200 meter dash (23.10). In addition he ran the opening leg of the 4×400 meter relay team who finished ninth overall.

In the hurdle events, Alton Machen ’20 finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles (15.37) and second in the 300 meter hurdles (39.25) amassing ten points between the two events.

Donnie Gray ’21 and Nikhil Barnes ’21 also tallied points for the Big Green. Donnie finished third in the 100 meter dash, earning six points and Nikhil Barnes earned two points for his fifth place finish in the high jump.

At the championship, the Big Green amassed 19 top-20 finishes and finished in fifth place overall with 40 points.
