Swimming & Diving Defeat Loomis on Senior Day

Boys and girls varsity swimming and diving returned home on Saturday, February 16th for their final and only home meet in the month of February to defeat visiting Loomis on the Big Green’s Senior Day.  The boys and girls combined to win 21 out of the 24 events in the meet. The girls scored 106 points and boys scored 101 points for the victories.

The 21 Big Green event victories included the following events and event winners;

Beyond the event victories, the boys team finished in first and second places in three of the events. In the 200 yard freestyle, Mason Zhao edged Vojta Kupka by less than a second for first place. Later in the 100 yard backstroke it was Shaun Kronenwetter who tapped the wall over two seconds ahead of the field and it was teammate Mason Zhao who finished in second place. Vojta and Justin Tang rounded out the Deerfield one-two finishes in the 500 yard freestyle. In the event, Vojta gained an early lead that he would extend to over 15 seconds for the victory and leading the rest of the remaining swimmers in the event was teammate Justin Tang, finishing in second.

Furthermore, the girls raced to three first and second place finishes and swept the podium for first, second and third place in the 500 yard freestyle. In the girls 50 yard freestyle, Taylor Coan finished in first while teammate Bailyn Prichett was close behind in second place. In the following event, the 1 meter diving, Sydney Bluestein and Monet Meyer combined for first and second place respectively. Two seniors, Bailyn and Emily Stonestreet, led the way for the podium sweep in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing in first and second and Angela Cui completed the sweep with her third place finish. Finally, in the 100 yard backstroke Izzy Hamlen and Darcy del Real were first and second.

Saturday’s wins improve the boys season record to 8-2 and the girls improve their record to 6-4. Both teams will shift their preparation to their final meet of the season, the New England Prep School Swimming and Diving Championships hosted at Deerfield. The diving championships will take place on Wednesday, February 27th and the two-day swimming championships are scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd to Sunday, March 3rd.
