The Big Green girls varsity swimming & diving team scored in 11 of the 12 championship meet events to surge their way to a bronze medal finish with 228 points at the 2019 NEPSSA DI Swimming & Diving Championship hosted by Deerfield on March 2-3.
Junior Niki Pelletier paced the scoring for the girls swimming and diving team by capturing first place in the girls 100 yard butterfly event with a time of 57.49, scoring 20 points for her individual victory and earning the title of New England Champion. Niki went on to score in three more events – girls 200 yard medley relay, girls 200 yard freestyle, and girls 200 yard freestyle relay – helping the team collect 91 of its total points.
Bailyn Prichett ‘19, Mina Liang ‘19, and Taylor Coan ’21 each scored in four events for the Big Green. Bailyn finished 11th in the 200 yard freestyle, she was sixth in the 500 yard freestyle, fifth in the 200 yard freestyle relay and tenth in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Mina combined to score in two relay and two individuals events; fourth in the 200 yard medley relay, 11th in the 100 yard freestyle, fifth in the 200 yard freestyle relay and seventh in the 100 yard breaststroke. Taylor finished in the top-12 in four events; first, she was fourth in the 200 yard medley relay, then she was 12th in the 50 yard freestyle, and finished with tenth place in the 100 yard freestyle and fifth place in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Darcy del Real ‘22, Charlotte Otis ‘21, Izzy Hamlen ‘20, Emily Stonestreet ’19 and Caroline Mahony ’21 also added to the team’s points at the championship meet. Darcy was ninth in the 100 yard butterfly, 13th in the 100 yard backstroke and tenth in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Charlotte Otis ’21 finished 14th in the 100 yard breaststroke race to collect three points for the Big Green. Izzy Hamlen helped to add points with her fourth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay, fourth place in the 100 yard backstroke and tenth place in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Emily swam the third leg of the 400 yard freestyle relay team who earned a tenth place finish in the meet’s final event. Caroline Mahony ’21 added six points to the team’s total scoring with her 11th place finish in the 100 yard butterfly.
At Wednesday’s championship diving portion of the meet, Sydney Bluestein ’21, Monet Meyer ’19 and Izzy McDonald ’20 collectively amassed 37 points with their respective second place, fourth place and 12th place finishes.
This year’s team third place finish matches the team’s 2018-17 third place finish at the championship meet.
This season the girls varsity swimming & diving team posted a 6-4 season record with their six wins coming against; Milton, Minnechaug, Suffield, NMH (x2), and Loomis.
