Big Green Boys Swimming & Diving Finishes Fourth at New England Championship

The boys varsity swimming & diving team finished the 2018-19 season as the fourth best Division I team in New England, scoring 259.5 points this past weekend at the 2019 New England Preparatory School Swimming & Diving Association Championship meet hosted by Deerfield Academy. Senior captain Shaun Kronenwetter captured the title of New England Champion in the 50 yard freestyle event, leading the Big Green scoring.

With the 50 yard freestyle win, touching the wall at 20.95 seconds, Shaun earned 20 points toward the team’s total and also received consideration for All-American status by besting the 20.96 consideration time. Moreover, Shaun finished fifth in the 100 yard freestyle, sixth in the 200 yard freestyle relay, and third in the 400 yard freestyle relay; contributing to 92 of the team’s points.

Teammates, Vojta Kupka ’20, Mason Zhao ’20 and Simon Lam ’19 each scored in two team and two individual events contributing to the Big Green’s point total. Vojta helped the Big Green secure 90 points, Simon aided in 88 points while Mason backed 72 of the team’s points.

Justin Tang ‘20, John O’Loughlin ‘21 and Ron Finkelberg ’21 also added to the Big Green’s total points. Justin scored in three separate events to help earn 36 points. John finished three events in the top-15 to secure 42 of the team’s points and Ron Finkelberg assisted the team’s effort by scoring in two events. Additionally, JJ Siritantikorn finished 12th in the 100 yard breaststroke adding five points to the team’s final score.

Collectively, the Big Green divers amassed 35 towards the team’s total with their efforts at Wednesday’s NEPSSA DI Diving Championships. Teddy McCarthy ’20 led the way for the Deerfield divers with a personal best second place finish, Tyler Kelly ’19 finished sixth and Harry Niles ’21 ranked 12th.

This season, the team finished one place ahead of last season’s fifth place finish at the championship meet. In addition to their fourth place finish at the New England Championship, the Big Green boys varsity swimming & diving team finish the season with an 8-2 record.
