Christian Capella ’25 Captures US Junior Open Squash Championship Title

Christian Capella ’25 captures the 2021 US Junior Open Squash Championship. The 2021 U.S. Junior Open Squash Championships marks the world’s largest individual junior squash tournament with more than 850 junior players competing and representing 41 nations in the four-day tournament which took place at four different facilities in the Philadelphia area, with the finals culminating at the Specter Center and the University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, December 21.

Christian Capella ’25 dawning his Deerfield green and white took to the courts for this monumental tournament. Entering the US Junior Open Tournament as the U15 top seed, Christian captured his first U.S. Open title.

To begin the tournament, Christian had a bye in the first round of 128 and advanced to the round 64 when he defeated his opponent 3-0 (11-7, 11-1, 11-7). In the round of 32, Christian was again victorious 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-3). In the round of 16, Christian defeated his opponent 3-2 (15-13, 8-11,6-11, 11-5, 11-3) and won both the quarterfinal and seminal games 3-0. Then, went on to capture the title in the finals.

In his first season for the Big Green, Christian has helped lead the Doors playing in the #1 spot on the team’s ladder to a 12-4 overall record which includes the team’s recent third place finish at the 2022 New England Class A Boys Squash Championship.

This weekend, Christian and the Big Green are primed to compete in the 2022 US High School Team Squash Championships in Philadelphia, PA for the first time since 2020. Deerfield enters the tournament as the fourth-seed and will face off against Rye Country Day School in the opening round. Click here for the tournament bracket.
