This course will provide Deerfield students with the skills and training necessary to be an effective leader on and off the field. We will study leadership styles, discuss championship-winning coaches and athletes, and evaluate team culture, positivity, and current issues in sport. Students will also examine cultural competency skills, which are critical to one’s ability to understand others and communicate effectively with people across cultures and backgrounds in our rapidly changing world.
We plan to meet every-other week for about an hour beginning in mid-January. Most of the course will be completed during our meetings, with the potential for small assignments outside of class (lasting no more than 10-15 minutes).
