Deerfield Speech and Debate Continued Success at Hotchkiss

On Sunday, October 29, Deerfield Speech & Debate traveled to Hotchkiss for their annual tournament. Hard on the heels of the program’s success in Canada last week, a DIFFERENT set of teams took third-place novice pair (John Woo ’26, Ellora Devitre ’26) second-place team overall and top advanced speaker. By winning that last award, Isaac Bakare ’24 became DA’s second debater (along with Justin Ahn ’24) to qualify for the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship in Canberra, Australia. Only twelve debaters from American schools will be selected. DA takes another spot!

The whole team on Sunday was Isaac, Avery Zakowich ’25, Billy Tang ’25, Myles Myzece ’25, John, Ellora, Esther Lee ’25, and Max Pang ’26.
