Deerfield Alumna Libby Leist ’97 Named Executive Producer of the Today Show

From the New York Times: “NBC said on Wednesday that Don Nash, the show’s executive producer since 2012, would leave and would be succeeded by Libby Leist, a veteran “Today” producer with deep ties to Washington and a strong working relationship with Savannah Guthrie, a co-anchor. The move makes Ms. Leist the first woman to hold the top producing job for the show’s first two hours.”

Nobel Prize Winners Rise and Shine with Circadian Rhythm Research

From the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet, which announced the prize on Monday morning: “With exquisite precision, our inner clock adapts our physiology to the dramatically different phases of the day. The clock regulates critical functions such as behavior, hormone levels, sleep, body temperature and metabolism.”

Three Americans–two with ties to Massachusetts–are the joint winners of the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, winning for their discoveries about how molecular mechanisms control circadian rhythm. The laureates are Michael Rosbash of Brandeis University, Jeffrey C. Hall of Brandeis University and the University of Maine, and Michael W. Young of Rockefeller University.
