Deerfield Teams Make a Big Splash

by Bob York The path from the pool to the podium has become rather familiar territory to the boys and girls of Deerfield Academy. The boys medaled at the New England Prep School Division I Swimming and Diving Championships this past weekend for the seventh consecutive year. The girls, meanwhile, came up short—by one slot—on showing off some bling for the first time in five years. The Big Green boys finished with 331 points to

Endowed Funds

As opposed to annual gifts, which cover yearly operating expenses, endowed funds provide long-term income to assist with all of Deerfield’s needs. Because only the income from the principal – not the principal itself – is spent, endowed funds provide money for Deerfield in perpetuity. Endowed funds can be established for a specified purpose, or as unrestricted funds to meet the greatest needs of the school. For more on stewardship and establishing an endowed fund, see

Boys Swimming ’13

By BOB YORK —  It took just mere seconds after Oscar Miao had scripted “The End” to his swimming career at Deerfield Academy that pandemonium began to set in. The Deerfield senior swims the anchor leg of the 400 freestyle relay. That makes him the final swimmer in the final event and means he’s the guy that gets to close out the good … the bad … or the ugly. And on this final night

Boys Swimming

By Bob York Over the past five years, the Big Green has spent an awful lot of time at the New England Swimming and Diving Championships kicking water in opponents’ faces.  It’s nothing personal mind you, just this sport’s trickle-down effect that finds the slower swimmers getting caught up in the wakes of the faster ones. The storied annals of Big Green swimming give credence to the fact that the boys of Deerfield would rather

Big Green Swimming Bests Big Red and Big Blue

By Bob York For the fourth consecutive year, Deerfield got to hang out and schmoose with the “Big Dogs”–Andover and Exeter–on the medals podium at the New England Prep School Boys Swimming and Diving Championships. The Big Green finished third this winter, just two points behind Exeter in a torrid battle for second place. Andover, meanwhile, finished atop the final standings.  The Big Blue posted 461 points to lead the way, while Exeter and Deerfield

Spring Sports Roundup

At first glance, you’d swear the Deerfield Academy boys lacrosse team had chalked up another typical season for itself this spring. The Big Green won 16 of 17 games, “which tied our record for the most wins in a season,” said coach Chip Davis, who is well aware of the win column. His clubs have registered 17 consecutive winning seasons and have amassed a 161-14 record since the turn of the century. Plus, the three
