Teacher- Early Learning Center

The Early Learning Center at Deerfield Academy seeking 2 full-time, benefitted Teachers to join our team.

 

The Early Learning Center provides quality early education and care to Deerfield Academy employees. The Center’s warm, safe, and nurturing environment encourages independence and self-respect, as well as sensitivity to, and an awareness of, others and the environment. The Center’s staff is committed to building relationships of mutual trust with both parents and their children. Recognizing parents as a child’s first educators and as active partners in the program allows our teachers to co-construct a comprehensive foundation of learning for all children. The Center consists of three classrooms: one for toddlers (aged 15 months to 2.9 years old), one for preschool-aged children (aged 2.9 to 5 years old) and an infant room.

The Teacher will work 40 hours/week for 40 weeks during the academic year (typically August to June).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health and well-being of the children at the Center, including all aspects of physical and emotional nurturing, while maintaining a safe, stimulating, and comfortable environment, in accordance with Early Education & Care (EEC) regulations and the Center’s Parent Handbook;
  • Assist Lead Teachers with curriculum, preparation and set up of materials, and delivery of daily curriculum;
  • Consistently respond to the child’s physical caregiving needs, including changing diapers according to EEC’s sanitary procedure; on occasion, provide parents with written and verbal communication daily regarding their children;
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and meet with the Director on a regular basis to review concerns and professional development needs;
  • While upholding safe food handling policies and practices, maintain each child’s feeding schedule with the bottles and solids provided by the parent;
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing the Center’s supplies and equipment to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment; adhere to safety policies and procedures including evacuation and emergency procedures, in conformance with state and EEC standards and regulations;
  • Attend 20 hours of professional development per year, annual CPR re-certification training, first aid training as needed; register, input, and update PQR training and educational hours on an annual basis.

 

Qualifications: Associates Degree or equivalent experience required; 1-3 years of experience working in a group child care setting; EEC Teacher Certification required; Must provide documentation of good physical health and current immunizations every two years, as required by EEC; possess an understanding of child growth and development; possess general knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid; possess strong and effective verbal communication skills; possess the ability to calmly handle stressful and emergency situations; demonstrate enjoyment of children; demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community; ability to manage, and sensitivity to, highly confidential information; and willingness to serve as a mandated reporter.

 

All teachers are subject to criminal background checks as well as fingerprinting for EEC and MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

 

**SIGN-ON BONUS**

The successful candidate will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus ($500 paid at time of hire and $500 paid at the end of 90 days of employment.)
