  • Coach Barbato enters his 3rd season as the Varsity Head Football coach after joining the Deerfield community in the fall 0f 2015. Barbato spent the 8 years coaching at his alma mater the University of New Hampshire, where he coached the Tight Ends, Offensive line and special teams. During his time with the Wildcats, UNH went 66 and 26 and maintained the longest streak of playoff appearances in the FCS.

    The Exeter, N.H., native graduated from UNH in ’04 with a degree in Sociology. He started 37 games during his playing career while seeing time at all five offensive line positions. He was named All-Atlantic 10 Second Team in 2003 and All-Atlantic 10 Third Team in 2002.

    Barbato also coached outside linebackers and safeties at St. Lawrence University for two seasons while earning his Master’s of Education. His hobbies include downhill skiing, fishing and golfing. Brian lives in Field I with his wife Carly and two sons Charlie and Teddy.

  • Coach DeMartino enters his first season with the Deerfield football team. He is the defensive coordinator and will be coaching the offensive and defensive lines. Coach DeMartino played defensive back at Hamilton College from 2003-2007 and was elected captain his senior season.

    After graduating, Coach DeMartino was the defensive coordinator, running backs coach and linebackers coach at Berkshire School. After 3 seasons at Berkshire, Coach DeMartino moved up to the college ranks in 2010, coaching the tight ends at Trinity College for 3 seasons and the offensive line and tight ends at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN for 3 seasons. In 3 seasons at Trinity, the team finished 22-2 and won 1 NESCAC conference championship. In 3 seasons at Rhodes, the team finished 20-10 and won 1 SAA conference championship.Last season, Coach DeMartino made it back to Trinity, where they finished 8-0, as an assistant coach working with the defensive line.

    At Deerfield, Coach DeMartino will be working in the Athletics and Admissions Office, living in Barton dorm and coaching varsity baseball in the spring.

  • Drew Philie returned to Deerfield to work in the Athletic and Admission Offices after four decorated years at the University of Vermont. Drew played lacrosse at UVM, where he was a three-year captain of the team and where his list of awards runs into double-digits, including academic distinctions and athletic honors. A tri-varsity athlete when he was a student at Deerfield, Drew was also the winner of James A. Gunn Award, presented to the member of the senior class who made outstanding contributions to the life of the school through loyalty and leadership. Drew lives in Barton I, coaches Boys Varsity Football, Boys Varsity Hockey, and Boys Varsity Lacrosse, and serves on the Admission Committee and Dorm Council.
