Deerfield Girls Hockey opened their season with a 2-1 won over visiting North Yarmouth Academy. We opened the scoring toward the end of the second period on the power play, after Gia Thompson ’26 buried a rebound from a Brady Wierl ’26 shot (Allie Corrieri ’25 also earned an assist). Sophie Frost ’26 extended our lead in the third, taking advantage of a great pass from Corrieri (after a strongdefensive play by Chloe Cleaves ’26) and absolutely ripping a shot top corner. We gave a goal back after a bad defensive breakdown, but did enough down the stretch to earn the win. Ana Makrogiannis ’27 and Izzy Kirby ’26 combined for the victory in goal, and Ava Giroux ’26 was awarded the first hard hat for her consistent effort all game long. We have a quick turnaround before an away game at St. Mark’s on Saturday.
