Victoria Patterson Sets Record at the New Balance Indoor National Track & Field Championships

Victoria Patterson ‘20 smashed the 2 mile Deerfield school record and finished 13th in the 20th edition of the New Balance Indoor National Track and Field Championships which took place from March 9-11th at the New York Armory. Victoria finished the 2-mile race with a time of 10:50.94.  She now holds Deerfield records for the 1,500m, Mile, 3,000m, and 2 miles.

The New Balance Nationals Indoor meet welcomes more than 3,500 of the country’s best track and field student-athletes from 40+ states and Canadian provinces.

In the fall, Victoria helped the girls cross-country team cap off their historic undefeated season with a New England Prep School Championship title.  The team earned the title in impressive fashion.  For the first time since 2012, the top five girls on the Deerfield team were awarded All-New England honors.  Victoria paced the squad all season and earned 2nd place in the championship race.

Victoria simultaneously trained for both swimming and track this winter.  She competed with the JV swimming team, combined weight room sessions and running 25-40 miles per week, demonstrating her dedication to her craft.  These commitments balanced with Victoria’s pursuit of excellence in the classroom are an impressive feat.

Victoria will return to the Deerfield track today, April 14th for her third season of the academic year as the track and field team welcomes Andover and Taft to the Pioneer Valley for their first home meet of the season. The first event is scheduled to start at 3:45pm.  Good luck chasing this Big Green standout!
