On Saturday, Deerfield overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat a tough Williston team at home to earn their third consecutive victory.
The Williston bats were hot early, and they had base hits and runners on the bags almost every inning. Williston snuck in a run in the 4th on a perfectly executed bunt play, and added a pair of runs in the top of the 5th.
Lauryn Broecker ’23 played exceptional defense all game at third base for the Big Green which sparked the Big Green bats to come alive later in the game.
In the bottom of the 5th inning, Kelly Howe ’22 roped a two-out double and Lauren Sobczak ’24 scored on the hit. Lauryn Broecker ‘23 followed with a double of her own, scoring Howe on the play.
Haley Abraham ’25 belted a triple, her second hit of the day, and scored on a wild throw to bring the Doors up 4-3. Deerfield played two solid innings of defense to finish the game with win.
Prior to Saturday’s win, the Big Green defeated Ethel Walker on Wednesday, April 27 by a score of 10-6.
Deerfield scored 10 runs on 13 hits for the victory. The Doors scored early and often, plating 7 runs in the 2nd inning to create an extensive gap Walker’s couldn’t overcome. Haley Abraham continued her stellar offensive play, leading Deerfield with 3 RBI and 3 hits on the day.
The team’s current winning streak started vs. Taft on Saturday, April 23 with 10-0 victory in five innings.
The Big Green scored five runs in the first two innings and in the bottom of the fifth inning, Deerfield strung together a series of timely hits and aggressive base running to score an additional 5 hits to bring the final score to 10-0.
In the pitcher’s circle, Kyra Parsons ’23 was outstanding in the shutout win for the Big Green, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits against Taft.
With the three consecutive the Big Green improve their season record to 4-3. Up next is NMH on Monday, May 2.
