Girls Basketball – Deerfield Holiday Tournament
The girls varsity basketball team extended their winning streak into the Deerfield Holiday Tournament before falling to Choate in the championship game. Coming off their first win of the season on the road at St. Paul’s (57-49), the Big Green opened their holiday tournament play against Vermont Academy. The Doors prevailed in the opening game over the Wildcats, 61-46. With the win, the team advanced to the winner’s bracket of the tournament to face a hot-shooting Brewster Academy team. At halftime, the Big Green trailed the Bobcats by double-digits, but rallied in the second half on the scoring of senior captain guard, Emma Reavis to earn the come-from-behind win, 58-55. For the second consecutive year, the Big Green earned their place in the championship game. Ultimately, this year’s squad fell to a talented Choate team in the final. The Big Green will return to action in the New Year on January 5th to face Worcester Academy.
Boys Basketball – Class A Winter Classic Tournament
The boys varsity basketball team traveled to St. Sebastian’s School in Needham, MA for the Class A Winter Classic Basketball Tournament to close out their 2018 game schedule. The Big Green entered the tournament on a three-game winning streak after defeating Westminster, Commonwealth Academy and the Pomfret School. In their opening tournament game, the squad entered halftime trailing opponent Thayer, 29-41, but rallied in the second half to cut the lead to two scores. The comeback fell just short, as Thayer snapped the team’s winning streak by a score of 76-70. In the second game, the Big Green lost a one-point heartbreaker to the host team St. Sebastian’s, 48-49. In their final tournament game, the Big Green fell to ISL team, Milton Academy, 49-59. The team will look rebound in the in the New Year when they visit Willison on January 5th to open their 2019 game schedule.
Girls Hockey – Watkins Invitational Tournament
In their second year participating in the Watkins Invitational Tournament hosted by Cushing Academy, the girls varsity hockey team defeated the host team in the championship game, 1-0, to earn their first Watkins Tournament title in program history! The Big Green prevailed through their three-game round robin schedule with a record of 2-1 to earn their spot in the championship game vs. Cushing Academy on Saturday (12/15). In the opening game on Thursday night the Doors defeated Worcester 5-1 and earned their second tournament win on Friday morning vs. Northwood, 4-1. On Friday night, the team fell to a talented New Hampton team, 1-3. The Big Green will enter 2019 with a record of 4-4-1 and open their 2019 slate of games at home against The Hill School on January 5th.
Boys Hockey – Flood-Marr Tournament
The boys varsity hockey team concluded the 2018 Flood-Marr Holiday Tournament at .500, defeating Hotchkiss in their final game, 6-2 to earn a fifth place finish overall. In the opening game of the tournament, Nobles handed the Big Green their first loss of the season, 1-4. Later the same day, the Big Green fell to Salisbury 1-4. In their lone game on Saturday, the Big Green rallied from a one-goal deficit to tie Kimball Union in regulation time and later defeat the Wildcats in OT, 3-2. With a 1-2 tournament record, the Big Green faced off against Hotchkiss for fifth place in their final tournament game, the Big Green commanded the game to seal the victory 6-2. At the close of 2018, the Big Green sit at 6-2 on the season and will return to their home ice to kick-off 2019 against Salisbury on January 5th.
