Deerfield girls varsity basketball earned its first regular season win of their 2018-2019 campaign on the road against St. Paul’s School on Saturday, 57-49.
The team came out fired up and quickly established themselves in the first few minutes; led by an impressive 4 for 4 run of three-pointers from Tess Mannix ’20, who finished the game five for eight from behind the arc. From that point forward, Deerfield held the lead for the rest of the game. Closing out the first half with a 33-21 advantage over the Big Red.
While St. Paul’s cut Deerfield’s lead to just 4 points during the second half, DA maintained their composure, hitting from the foul line and Emma Reavis ’19 and Grace Arcoleo ’22 made some clutch steals in the final minutes to help the Big Green finish the game eight points ahead, 57-49.
Tess Mannix led all scorers with 20 points. Emma Reavis earned 13 points, Claire Cummings netted 11 points, and Melissa Mitrovic added 10 points in Deerfield’s balanced scoring attack.
With Saturday’s win the Big Green improved their season record to 1-1. Today the squad will begin their preparation for the upcoming Deerfield Holiday Tournament, which tips off this Thursday, 12/13 when the Doors face Vermont Academy in the opening tournament game at 4:00pm.
