Girls Tennis Shuts Out NMH to Record Fourth Straight Win on Senior Day

On Monday, the girls varsity tennis team hosted NMH for their final home match of the regular season. The Big Green shut out the visiting Hoggers, 9-0 on their way to earning their fourth straight victory. Furthermore, three of these four wins have come in the last five days!

On Saturday, the girls varsity tennis team traveled to Loomis Chaffee School and defeated the Pelicans by a score of 7-2.

The top doubles match was a great battle. Loomis bested Deerfield in the end by a slim margin. Big Green’s pairings at two and three earned victories in their contests.

Isha Rao ’22 battled back at number one singles after falling behind early. After a narrow first set win, she cruised in the second. Hunter Pulliam ’22 dialed in and had an epic battle at two singles, forcing both sets to a twelfth game decision. Olivia Waterfall ’23 found great success with her first serve and winning volleys at number three. Kiki Brainard ’22 and Avery Brooker ’24 earned big wins at six and five singles respectively. Daphne Gavros ’22 won 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles. Through seven weeks, Daphne has put together an undefeated season at singles!

Prior to Saturday’s win, the Big Green defeated Hoosac (5-4) on May 5 and began their current winning streak against Hotchkiss on Saturday, April 30 with a 7-2 victory.

The girls tennis program thanks graduating seniors Kiki Brianard, Daphne Gavros, Devon L’Esperance, Hunter Pulliam, and Isha Rao for their hard work and loyalty to the team over the past several years. You elevated the tennis program and made Deerfield proud each time you stepped on the court. Your coach and teammates will miss you terribly. Thank you again.

The team will return to action this Saturday, May 14 when they travel to Wallingford, CT to take on rival Choate Rosemary Hall.
