Girls Lacrosse Opens Season with a Historic Win Over St. Mark’s

Deerfield opened their 2022 season on Rowland Field with a historic win over St. Mark’s, 10-8.

The Big Green executed a balanced attack throughout the game, netting five goals in each half of the game.

Brooke Stroh ’24 led the Big Green on the scoresheet with three goals. Sophia Knoblock ’22 recorded two goals for Deerfield. Marnie Todd ’23, Charlotte Iler ’23, Harlowe Healey ’24, Kaitlyn Kelly ’22 and Meghan Holland ’23 each registered a goal.

The Big Green defense had a stand-out performance, accumulating 13 caused turnovers in the game which resulted in several possession changes. In goal for the Big Green, Lourdes Klem ’22 made five saves to help secure the team’s first victory of the season.

In the final minutes of play, Deerfield secured possession and the victory.

The win marks the first time in girls varsity lacrosse playing history between Deerfield and St. Mark’s that the Big Green have topped the Lions since the two teams began playing each other every year since their first meeting in the 2012 season.

One game into their season, the 2022 girls varsity lacrosse team has already etched their names into the Deerfield record books. Looking forward to more exciting games ahead this season for the Big Green!

The Big Green returns to action this Saturday, April 9 at 3:30pm at Middlesex.
