Girls Hockey Shuts Out Pomfret; Hastings Cup Remains in Deerfield

Deerfield girls varsity hockey dominated a hard working Pomfret squad on Wednesday evening, outshooting the visitors 68-7 and winning the Hastings Cup for the fourth straight year. The Hastings Cup is given annually to the winner of the Deerfield/Pomfret game.

Kelly Howe ‘22 got the Big Green on the board (assists to Brianna Felice ‘21 and Kailey Smith ‘22) when she went hard to the net and converted a rebound.

The second period was the team’s best of the game, and the Doors were able to put three more pucks past the talented Pomfret goalie. First, Christina Halloran ‘20 took a pass from Caroline Skillman ‘19, split the defense and slipped the puck in all alone. Then, Howe earned her second goal of the game, again by going hard to the net, with Felice picking up another assist. Skillman rounded out the scoring for the period, punching home a rebound off of Halloran and Mae Emerson ‘19 shots.

In the third period, Mary Edmonds ‘19 poked home a loose puck (assist to Ellia Chiang ‘21) and then Kailen Coelho ‘20 scored the first of her Deerfield career off a beautiful feed from Edmonds.

All four forward lines contributed to the scoreline and the Big Green defense adjusted well to the new five defensemen rotation.

Jordan Manning ‘19 and Abby Fernald ‘22 shared the shutout in net, both making some solid saves.

The Big Green improve their season record to 10-5-2 and will look to extend their two-game winning streak against the Big Blue of Andover on Saturday, 1/26 at 6:30pm on home ice. Saturday’s game is available on livestream.

Go Big Green!
