This past weekend marked the beginning of the 2017-18 school year as all Deerfield students returned to campus. Over the course of the last week, varsity teams gradually made their way back to campus for a short but busy preseason. After a week of hard work, Saturday provided an opportunity to match up against other varsity programs during scrimmages and play days.
On a beautiful sunny day in the Pioneer Valley, Deerfield played host to multiple contests. As a part of their preseason, the girls’ varsity soccer team participated in a play day with NMH, Williston, KUA, Berkshire and BB&N. Additionally, the girls’ varsity field hockey team hosted a play day of their own.
In preparation for their road trip down to New Jersey this weekend to take on Lawrenceville in their season opener, the varsity football team hosted Williston for a scrimmage/joint practice.
Looking Ahead:
The official start of the 2017 fall athletic season begins on Wednesday, September 13th, when the Deerfield boys’ varsity soccer team travels to Avon for their season opener. Then, coming up on Saturday, September 16th, Deerfield will host a full schedule of opening games. Season home-openers include: girls’ soccer versus Milton at 2:00pm, volleyball taking on Miss Porters and Milton at 12:30pm and 3:30pm respectively, boys’ soccer squaring off against Salisbury at 4:00pm and finally, the Brush Invitational for both boys’ and girls’ cross country at 3:00pm and 3:30pm.
Other varsity teams with away games include varsity football at Lawrenceville, varsity field hockey at Berkshire and boys’ varsity water polo at Choate for the Choate Quad.
Be sure to come out and cheer on the Deerfield teams as they commence their 2017 seasons!
