Congratulations to our first spring 2024 Doors of the Week!
Varsity Softball: Sabina Frosk ’24
Sabina Frosk is the door of the week for softball. Offensively Sabina had two hits and reached base on three of her four at bats during our game against NMH last Saturday. Due to her heads-up base running she also had five stolen bases. Defensively, her strong arm and great glove also helped the team tremendously, as she made some great catches and relays to throw a runner out at 3rd base.
Varsity Baseball: Connor Niemiec ’25
Connor is off to fantastic start for varsity baseball! This past Wednesday, he pitched four strong innings, giving up one run against Westminster (4-3 win) and this past Saturday, he picked up the win (4-3) in the first game of the Belmont Hill doubleheader pitching one shutout inning. Overall, Connor has pitched five innings, giving up 1 run, 2 hits, while striking out 7. Keep up the great work Connor!
Ultimate: Sammy Sullivan ’25
The Ultimate Door of the Week is Sammy Sullivan ’25. A talented player with strong disk skills and good field sense, Sammy makes smart calls during games and helps newer players shine. Sammy is generous with his time during practices, as well. He is happy to teach a newcomer how to throw, just as he is game to be a demo player for a new drill. Sammy is a quiet but consistent leader, never showing off but rather celebrating the successes of the team as a whole. We’re tremendously lucky to have him on our side.
Girls Varsity Track & Field: Allegra Alfaro ’25
Mother nature has not been kind to track and field as we start our season, but that has not stopped the enthusiasm of our athletes. That is especially true for this athlete. She comes to practice on time and ready to work. She leans into each warm-up, drill, and exercise knowing that it will be beneficial for her performance throughout the season. Beyond that, she encourages fellow athletes to share her passion and keep trying new events. She has started out the season as a role model and we look forward to seeing what else happens this season! Girls’ Track and Field Door of the Week is Allegra Alfaro.
Boys Varsity Tennis: Gunter Weldon ‘27
Freshman Gunter Weldon is the first boys varsity tennis DOTW due to an outstanding showing in the teams’ first two dual matches of the season. Gunter went 1-1 in singles playing in the #2 spot, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Belmont Hill’s Ernest Lai and almost taking out Groton’s senior captain on Saturday (ultimately losing 12-10 in the third set superbreaker). In doubles he is undefeafed so far, beating Groton 8-4 with Tai Feng at the #2 position, followed by a thrilling comeback victory in the #1 spot with partner Ethan Li against Belmont Hill.
Girls Varsity Water Polo: Josephine Cramer ‘24, Taz Hancock ‘24, and Lauren Smith ‘24
A memorable training trip to California, productive early practices, and a heartening win against Exeter wouldn’t have happened for the girls’ polo team without the spirited leadership of senior tri-captains Josephine Cramer, Taz Hancock, and Lauren Smith. The leaders have graciously welcomed newcomers, quickly established a trusting team culture, and freely shared their skills and experience. Individually and collectively, they make everyone’s time on the deck and in the pool a delight.
Girls Varsity Lacrosse: Keira Austin ‘26, Rose Manning ‘26, and Peyton Wierl ‘26
Keira, Rose, and Peyton have started off their sophomore seasons in an extremely impactful way by leading themselves and focusing in on all the little things that don’t always get recognized. In practice they have consistently been competing and executing a growth mindset. Against a tough Dexter team, Keira played stingy defense, Rose came up with numerous groundballs, and Peyton had great communication on the defensive end.
