Girls Water Polo Wins in OT; Secures Back-to-Back Victories

On Saturday, the girls varsity water polo team defeated visiting Greenwich in overtime and quickly followed with another win over Andover later that afternoon to secure two home victories.

The overtime victory over Greenwich marked the first time in recent memory that the Big Green defeated the Greenwich Gators in the pool. Despite falling behind in the opening two frames, the Big Green rallied in the second half to win both the third and fourth quarters to set the score even at the final whistle and push the game to overtime.

In the first overtime period, the Big Green trailed by a goal and quickly rallied to score three goals in the second overtime period to secure the victory, 18-17.

Anne Kelly ’27 led the Big Green in scoring with eight goals, senior co-captain Josephine Cramer notched six goals. Jazmine Wilson Bigornia ’25 and Sophia Gao ‘26 each registered two goals in the game while senior co-captain Lauren Smith and Taz Hancock ’24 each netted a goal in the victory.

In goal for the Big Green, Annabelle Martin ’24 made 10 saves.

Shortly after the thrilling overtime victory, the Big Green returned to the pool to face off against Andover. The Big Green carried their momentum and second half scoring from the previous game to the opening whistle of the second game vs. the Big Blue.

At the end of the first quarter, the Big Green jumped ahead to an early 3-1 lead and never looked back. The team scored another four goals in each the third and fourth quarter and netted a lone goal in the final frame to seal the win, 12-7.

Again, Annabelle Martin ’24 helped the Big Green earn the win by making ten saves in goal.

Lauren Smith ’24 and Anne Kelly ’27 each notched three goals in the games. In addition, Josephine Cramer ’24 and Sophia Gao ’26 both netted two goals. Taz Hancock ’24 and Miu Yatsuka ’24 rounded out the scoring with a goal each.

With the two back-to-back victories over the weekend, the Big Green improve their record to 3-0 on the season and will return to the pool this Wednesday when they welcome Loomis Chafee at 3pm.
