Doors of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!

Varsity Field Hockey: Erin Dunne ’28
The VFH DOTW is Erin Dunne ’28. Erin has had a fantastic first season with the Big Green and has been a powerful presence on our defensive line. She is fast, skilled, disciplined, and plays with intensity and high level of competitiveness in every practice and game. Moreover, Erin is a positive and supportive teammate. We look forward to her continued leadership and defensive dominance in the last few weeks of the season!

Boys Cross-Country: Jackson Violich ’25
The Door of the Week this week is Jackson Violich, who displayed racing savvy and terrific fitness in order to surge into the fifth scoring position on the varsity squad. Racing tactics aren’t easy to execute, but Jackson found a way to get the job done when it counted.

Theatre: Cast of the fall production of The Crucible
The Doors of the Week in the Theater Program go to the entire cast and crew of the fall production of The Crucible. For their sheer hard work in helping to build the set, to memorizing countless lines, learning complicated staging, finding period props and furniture, hanging lights, to stage managing and designing the eerie soundscape, this ensemble richly deserves this recognition and full houses! You have breathed life into this important play, and we could not be more proud of all your efforts and unrelenting dedication to creating the best theater possible for our community. Thank you!

JV Field Hockey: Maggie O’Brien ’27
This week JV FH would like to nominate Maggie O’Brien as DOTW. While Maggie has been stationed in the midfield for most of the season, in our most recent games against Taft and Andover, she really impressed us coaches as she tried her hand at offense. In the Taft game, she scored a critical goal early in the game and across both games brought a competitive energy, a skilled stick, and top-notch communication to the field. At practice today, the girls led Bement’s field hockey team in a clinic. Each drill the teams did together was designed by the DA JV team. Maggie brought a great deal of excitement, energy, and smart ideas to the table in the planning stages of the clinic; the girls ended up doing two of Maggie’s suggestions during the clinic, a shooting drill and a fun rock-paper-scissors dribbling drill. Her contributions really made this community service activity something special. Maggie always laughs hard and plays hard and we have loved watching her grow this season!

Boys Water Polo: Yong Ding ’27
In every game and in every practice, Yong brings his A-game. His energy, attentiveness, and desire to learn the sport have awarded him a newfound awareness of the game. He continues to prove himself as a tenacious player, and this tenacity is invaluable on any team! Great job Yong!

Boys Varsity Soccer: Blake Donnellan ’25 & Joe Berman ’25
Blake Donnellan scored his first DA soccer goal against Wilbraham on October 30 and Joe Berman started his first varsity game in goal against Wilbraham on Oct 30.

Boys Jr. A Soccer: Kenan Ozada ’28
Kenan has been putting together a promising rookie campaign in the Deerfield soccer program. A lover of the game, Kenan comes alive on the field and enjoys pushing his teammates to be better. He’s played all over the field for us this season. Against Andover on Saturday, when injuries left us without any substitutes, we had to ask him to play fullback, his least favorite position.  He proceeded to spend the next 75 minutes putting on a clinic—hustling hard, playing heads-up, and making smart decisions that show how the fullback can not only snuff out attacks but also ignite our offense. Kenan’s future in DA soccer is bright!

Girls Thirds Soccer: Aelahni Valdez ’28
Aelahni Valdez ’28 is the epitome of a team player. Each day, she consistently shows up to practice, ready to give it her all, going as far to even helping Coach Mario make new drills to keep the team on their toes. She dedicates herself to all parts of the game, volunteering to fill in for our goalie after an unexpected concussion. She is always looking for ways to improve, while also helping others to improve, earning her the title of Door of the Week.

JV Volleyball: Gigi Selvig ‘27
Sophomore Gigi Selvig is a bright spot on the JV Volleyball team bringing a positive attitude and a genuine drive to learn and improve her game in every aspect. Gigi shows tremendous flexibility as she transitions between middle blocker and outside hitter, sometimes in the same match! She hits the ball very hard and has a blistering serve that is unstoppable for many teams. Against Stoneleigh-Burnham, she served 8 points in a row in the first set and over the course of the game she had 6 aces! Gigi has a tremendous future in volleyball!

Boys Jr. B Soccer: Spencer Trees ’27
The Quad Squad DOTW is Spencer Trees! Spencer’s skills and soccer IQ has developed significantly throughout the season. Working hard at practice and in games, Spencer has made an impact in multiple positions on the field. Filling in where needed and eagerly taking on new challenges, our team is lucky to have such a dedicated flexible team member!

Varsity Volleyball: Zoe Galaburda ’26
The DOTW for varsity volleyball is Zoe Galaburda ’26. Zoe has taken a big step up this year, becoming a leader on defense. Whether it’s serve receive, team defense, or being an attacking option from the back row, Zoe is always looking to improve her game. She has been one of Deerfield’s leading servers and is our last line of defense in the back row. Congratulations Zoe!

Girls Varsity Soccer: Eva Bramwell ‘26
Eva Bramwell is this week’s Girls Varsity Soccer Door of the Week. Eva’s consistency, work rate, positive attitude and stellar play on the post on corner kicks are a few of the reasons Eva has earned this shout out! As a winger, she has been threating other teams’ defenders with her quick technical footwork and combination play. Conversely, she has been neutralizing opposing team’s attacks with her work rate and tenacity to defend. Most recently, Eva had a stellar performance against Andover where her sheer will as a post player to keep the ball from crossing the line multiple times was amazing! Keep up the great work, Eva!

Girls JV Soccer: Chloe Acquavella ‘25
Chloe A. ‘26 is a great example of what it means to be a team first player. Always ready to go whenever she’s called upon, Chloe’s dependability and willingness to always give 110% makes her a great teammate and role model for younger players.

Robotics: Caroline Creary ‘28
Caroline Creary ’28 is the Robotics Team Door of the Week. She’s consistently been one of the most productive members of the team, despite being a rookie. This week, she’s been shortening the intake arm, which primarily involves rebuilding a multi-stage belt-driven slide. We appreciate Caroline’s determination, her can-do attitude, and her ability to learn new tech. Congratulations, Caroline!

Varsity Football: Mack Mrowka ’25
Mack Mrowka earned the DOTW nod for the Varsity Football Team game this past weekend.  It was a hard fought game in which Mack continued to show his knack for making big plays on passes in the air.  Mack not only was a secure tackler from his safety position but he showed his prowess as a ball hawk in making two interceptions on the night.  Both interceptions led to Big Green touchdowns.  We are excited to see Mack continue to roam and make plays in our defensive secondary.  Go Big Green!

Go Big Green!
