Doors of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!

Boys Cross-Country: Max Wang and Jason Ko
The Doors of the Week this week are Max Wang and Jason Ko. Max Wang set a new personal best on his home cross country course while running smoothly to an individual win for his last meet of his Deerfield XC career. It was a beautiful run on a beautiful day, so he deserves recognition. Jason Ko also gets recognized for his terrific sub-19 minute performance after battling back to full health. Jason has been steadily chipping away at his personal bests all season long, and this race effort was a mark to be proud of.

Boys JV Soccer: Isaac Shobola
Isaac is our final DOTW for his intrepid play at Andover and at home vs NMH. In both games, we had a short bench and we faced formidable rivals and in both games, Isaac rose to the challenge and played nearly all minutes. At wing back, he was pressed time and again by speedy wingers and he maintained balance, went to the ground, used his head, and sometimes simply out-hustled and out-muscled the other players. He has also chosen moments to overlap and assert himself as an offensive threat. After a clutch goal late in the Loomis game, Isaac has gained so much confidence and has made big strides to become a reliable, focused, and very competitive member of our team.

Thirds Volleyball: Fiona Van Nice ’25 and McKenzie Goltermann ’25
The final Doors of the Week for Girls Thirds Volleyball this year are Fiona Van Nice ’25 and McKenzie Goltermann ’25. Fiona and McKenzie have been an integral part of the team over the last three years. As our two seniors, and captains, this year, they have led the team with enthusiasm and passion. Their friendship creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the team and has helped us become the best team we can be. Beyond that, they are both fantastic players no matter what you ask them to do. They perform well under pressure, serve consistently, and can set, hit, and pass. We have been so lucky to have them on our team again this year. They will be greatly missed next season.

Boys Jr. A Soccer: Rich Zhou ‘26
Rich put together another week of strong work in our back line, but this recognition should extend to his excellent work not just this week but all season, on and off the field. His coaches love the way he thinks on the field, with his moves always made with a clear purpose and his game adapting and improving as he reads offenses and adjusts accordingly. Even better, Rich—while not a named captain—steps into a leading role at practice and in our huddles, excited to lift up his teammates and push everyone to be better. Rich’s play and presence are a big reason we’re in position to conclude an injury-riddled season with a victory against Choate this weekend.

Varsity Volleyball: Charlotte Coody ’26
DOTW this week for varsity volleyball goes to Charlotte Coody ’26. Charlotte has really pushed the pace of the DA offense in recent weeks. We have started running faster, more varied, and more complex plays. This has helped an already strong DA offense to take another step up. Charlotte is not only an offensive threat as a setter. He has also become a dangerous hitter, not only with the power she can put behind a hit, but also her ability to play smart and place the ball in open spots. Congratulations Charlotte.

Girls JV Soccer: Alexandra Fierro ’25 and Sophia Sotirhos ’25
Alexandra F. ’25 and Sophia S. ’25 are two of our senior standouts who help lead practices and set the tone for games. In our last home game of the season, both Alexandra and Sophia were able to score goals. Alexandra is one of our leading goal-scorers this year, but Sophia is our starting goalie. She took advantage of her time out of goal to notch her first score of the year!

JV Football: Arthur Manice
This week, we nominate Arthur Manice for DOTW.  For the entire year he has exemplified the meaning of teammate.  He puts others first, and when he converted our 2nd extra point yesterday against Loomis, his teammate’s reaction further confirmed that Arthur is respected as a teammate, but even more importantly as a good person.

Boys Jr. B Soccer: Coleman Keller
The Quad Squad Door of the Week is Coleman Keller! Coleman was a crucial part of our defense this season and played hard in whatever position he was in. Coleman also stepped in and played keeper several times throughout the season and did a great job! Giving 100% in every game, Coleman showcased his ability to be adaptive to our team’s needs and play effectively in almost any position on the field!

Boys Varsity Soccer: Walker Naughton ’25
Walker Naughton ’25…. scored both goals in a 2-3 loss against NMH… his first and second goals as a varsity soccer player! The first goal was elite and the second goal was brilliant… both struck by his non-dominant foot.

Varsity Field Hockey: Eloise Hochberg ’27
The VFH DOTW is Eloise Hochberg ’27. Eloise has been a steady and reliable defender for the Big Green all season. She loves the game and pushes herself to get better every time she steps on the field. She had one of her best games all season against Williston on Wednesday, as she played with poise and determination and led the team in a very positive way. Moreover, she earned an assist on one of our goals and played a significant role in our 3-2 win. Keep up the great work, Eloise!

Varsity Football: Nick Gerard ‘25
Nick has proven to be a great leader, competitor and teammate throughout this fall for the Big Green.  His toughness and perseverance has been outstanding and he has also been one of the best linebackers in Prep Football.  Nick paced Deerfield in the team’s big win over Salisbury on Saturday.  He had 8 tackles along with a sack and a tackle for loss on the defensive side of the ball.  It was on offense however that Nick drew the biggest rise from the crowd and his teammates.  Nick scored a 30 yard touchdown on a pass from Connor Hevesy that proved to be the game winner in the second half.  The Deerfield faithful were fired up for Nick as they celebrated with him in the end zone.  Nick plays the game the way it should be played and we are excited to watch him line up this weekend against Choate.

JV Volleyball: Blake Coleman ‘27
Sophomore Blake Coleman has established herself as a powerful outside hitter over the course of this 24-25 season. She is an ideal player in that she takes feedback and enacts it, improving her skills and stats each week. This week at St. Paul’s, she clocked the most kills she has had all season at five in two sets, proving to be an important part of the 3 set win on Wednesday afternoon. Blake also understands the game of volleyball and thinks strategically as she plays. We can’t wait to see how Blake’s volleyball career develop over the next two years.

Girls Varsity Soccer: Lily Woods ‘26
Girls Varsity soccer celebrates Lily Woods as this week’s Door of the Week. As a new member of the varsity squad, Lily has shown up consistently ready to take on any challenge presented with positivity and her exemplary work rate. It has been awesome to watch her increasing confidence earn her crucial minutes in the center back position for the Big Green. Lily’s solid defending and field sense helped lift the Doors over Wilbraham Monson this past Wednesday afternoon.  Keep up the great work Lily!

Girls Cross-Country: Ginger Bernstein ‘25, Teagan Farley ‘26 and Tatum Lowe ‘25
This week, the Girls Cross Country team nominates Ginger Bernstein, Teagan Farley and Tatum Lowe – our amazing team captains.
Together, these three girls a powerhouse! That can be said about them as runners and as captains. It’s as if they were born to play the role of team captain. They have such an amazing sense of what the girls on the team want and need in order to be happy on the team and in order to be healthy athletes. They have managed to create the best team culture imaginable on the Cross Country team, and they are all adored by the team and coaches alike.  We love our captains!

Go Big Green!
