Boys Water Polo Scores in Double Digits to Defeat St. John’s

The Big Green boys water polo team recorded a season-high of 18 goals to defeat visiting St. John’s, 18-12, extending the team’s current winning streak to five games.

In the first quarter of play, the Big Green jumped ahead to a 5-1 lead and further extended their lead in the second quarter to 10-5.

The Doors continued outscoring their opponent in the third quarter, 6-1 to extend the lead the to 16-6. The Big Green closed out the game in the fourth quarter scoring two goals to secure the 18-12 victory.

Bendeguz Levai ’24 and HD Lee ’24 led the Big Green scoring with four goals each. Will Hill ’24 registered three goals. Alexander Volkman ’23 and Alessandro Turchetta ’23 each notched two goals while Chris Zeng ’26, Leon Kong ’25 and Barron Celli ’25 recorded a goal a piece.

The Big Green goaltending responsibilities were shared between Kenan Cakir ’24, Oliver Browne ’24 and Ben Sackrey ’25.

The current Big Green winning streak started on Wednesday, September 21 with a 13-6 win over Loomis. It continued with two wins on Saturday, September 24 over Westminster (14-3) and Andover (14-8). The fourth win came on the road at Suffield on Wednesday, September 28 (8-6).

The Big Green return to action against rival Choate Rosemary Hall this Wednesday, October 5 in Wallingford, CT. They will look to avenge their earlier season 5-6 loss to the Wild Boars.
