Deerfield hit the road today to take on a talented and experienced Berkshire squad. Both teams came in to the match looking for a win and ready to compete. Berkshire came out strong in the first half with some solid possession leading to some offensive pressure. To the Big Green’s credit, Deerfield defended extremely well and kept the defensive structure tight, which limited the quality chances for Berkshire. As the half wore on, Deerfield was able to establish a bit of possession and generate some offensive chances. The first half ended 0-0.
The second half saw Deerfield come out strong and assert themselves. The Big Green focused on possession in through the midfield and building play in to the offensive third. Deerfield was able to capitalize on a beautifully constructed play down the right side by Nyle Kamil ’22 and Nico Arce ’22, which led to a cross by Arce in to the box and finished by Tino Munochiveyi ’22 to put Deerfield up 1-0. Much of the first twenty minutes of the half was back and forth until Berkshire started to tilt the field in their favor, leading to some excellent chances. Deerfield stayed strong and Kai Darrell ’24 was excellent in net. As time ran down, Berkshire pressed forward and Tynan Creagh ’22 saw that the Berkshire keeper was playing substantially out of his net. With incredible skill and situational awareness, Tynan chipped the keeper from about half field to put Deerfield up 2-0, which is how it would end. It was an incredible team victory for Big Green over an excellent Berkshire squad.
With the road victory, the Big Green improve to 4-2-1 on the season and will return to action at St. Paul’s on Saturday.
