With impending rain in this past Wednesday’s forecast, the boys varsity and JV tennis matches vs. neighboring Northfield Mt. Herman were bumped up a day to Tuesday, April 24th, 2018. Tuesday’s perfect weather conditions carried over to the courts as the boys varsity and JV tennis teams were perfect, shutting out the Hoggers 5-0 and 7-0 respectively.
In the varsity level match up, all nine of Deerfield’s players took the court defeating NMH 5-0 to even its record at 3-3. In their varsity debuts, freshman Achille Sarachek and senior Joni Otto-Bernstein won 8-2 at third doubles. Deerfield clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 win at first doubles and eventually swept the three matches.
Deerfield gave up only thirteen games in abbreviated singles action; Gideon Yektai was flawless in his victory at third singles, while Adrian Yao won the first singles match of career in the sixth position. Deepak Pathapati provided the clinch at fourth singles.
With Tuesday’s win the boys JV squad snapped a 2-match losing streak with their 7-0 defeat of the Hoggers to improve their season record to 3-2. All three of this season’s wins have come from 7-0 sweeps over Cardigan, Taft, and NMH.
