After a series of away games to close out 2017 and three road games to kick-off 2018, the boys hockey team finally returned home and were victorious defeating Trinity-Pawling 4-2 to capture their first home win of 2018.
In a week packed with 3 games in 4 days, the boys hockey team prevailed to post a 2-1 record last week. On Wednesday, 1/10, the Big Green opened the week at Loomis earning their first road win of the season 7-3 over the Pelicans. The skating doors continued their road stint and traveled to Ashburnham, MA to face off against the Penguins of Cushing Academy on Friday night. The team continued their high scoring ways posting 3 goals on the night, but fell 4-3 to the Penguins. Finally, the Big Green returned home to host Trinity-Pawling Saturday afternoon and defeated the Pride 4-2.
In Saturday’s win over Trinity-Pawling, three different Big Green players netted goals to help seal the victory. Mikey Holland led the way with two goals. Bret Pastor and Sean McAvoy each netted a goal in the contest to round out the scoring, 4-2 in favor of the Big Green.
On Friday night, Milo DeFay (assisted by Shasha Shogren) scored early to give the Big Green the early advantage over the Penguins. Cushing leveled the scoring 1-1 at the start of the second period. Mikey Holland (assisted by Sean McAvoy and Chris Camelio) doubled the Big Green scoring to go up 2-1 in the second period. Cushing once again leveled the scoring making the score 2-2 after two periods of play. Cushing scored a powerplay goal and added another goal to start the third period. With minutes left to play, Eamon Doheny (assisted by Mikey Holland and Sean McAvoy) scored a powerplay goal to pull the Big Green within 1-goal, 3-4, but the final whistle blew with the score in favor of the Penguins, 3-4.
Wednesday’s game in Windsor, CT against Loomis was a high-scoring affair with a combined ten goals finding the back of the net. The Big Green went down 0-1 to start the game. Senior captain Tommy Craft leveled the scoring, 1-1, on assists from Jarod Harrington and Chris Camelio. On an assist from Tomas Zourikian, Sean McAvoy gave the Big Green a 2-1 advantage to end of the first period. The Big Green doubled their goals scored in the second period, 4-1. Sean McAvoy (assisted by Tomas Zourikian) scored his second goal of the game and Connor Guest scored assisted by Theo Lenz and Matt Miron. In the third period, the Pelicans pulled within 1-goal, making the scoring 4-3. In the final minutes of the game, the Big Green scored three insurance goals to make the final score 7-3 with the final three goals netted by Zourikian, Camelio and Shogren.
In total, the Big Green netted 14 goals last week while only giving-up nine goals on the opposite end. The successful week improves the team’s overall season record to 4-7. Another big week of 3-games is ahead for the team. First up this week, the team will travel to Kimball Union on Wednesday and conclude the week with a home-and-away series with Choate on Friday and Saturday.
