Avenging a loss earlier in the season, Deerfield boys varsity basketball defeated a strong Williston squad 61-52 in front of a large and animated home crowd last Friday night.
After a tight first half in which Deerfield build a small lead, the Big Green stretched their advantage to double-digits in the beginning of the second half, sparked by a monstrous dunk by Bennett Pitcher ’21 and a timely three-pointer by Jackson Pitcher ‘19. Jackson Selvala ’19 and Jackson McCarty ‘19 controlled the defensive boards while Jade Tse ‘19 set a patient tempo for the team’s offensive possessions.
Forced to foul down the stretch, Williston sent Jade Tse to the line repeatedly. He finished the game making 18 free throws out of 25 attempts, scoring a total of 30 points in the win.
The Big Green will enjoy a 12-day break from game action before returning to the court when they travel to Taft on Wednesday, February 6th for a 3:45pm contest.
