To round out a challenging week on the road at far away destinations, the Deerfield girls varsity basketball team earned a solid win against The Hotchkiss School on Saturday, 58-33.
New ninth and tenth graders, Grace Arcoleo, Aoife Bruce and Evan Burkert stepped up in key positions to help the Big Green seal the road victory.
As always, Deerfield relied on the steady leadership of seniors Melissa Mitrovic and Emma Reavis throughout the game. In the second half, Hotchkiss was intent upon shutting down lead scorer Reavis, which forced other players to step up and score. Arcoleo, in particular, contributed 4 three-pointers in the effort.
The Big Green pulled away from the Bearcats in the final five minutes of the game to build up to a 25 point lead, buoyed by exciting buckets from Caroline Carpenter, Hannah Deringer and Kate Kelly in the final minutes of play.
Saturday’s win evens the Big Green’s season record to 6-6 entering today’s contest vs. the visiting Wildcats from Kimball Union. The Wildcats also enter today’s contest with a .500 record at 7-7-0. Today’s game is available for viewing on livestream, click here to watch.
