Ben Lovejoy ’03 and the Pittsburgh Penguins Win Stanley Cup

Congratulations to Ben Lovejoy ’03 and the Pittsburgh Penguins for winning their fourth Stanley Cup on Sunday against the San Jose Sharks. The Penguins’ 3-1 win eliminated the Sharks in Game 6 of the final series. The team will celebrate in Pittsburgh tomorrow with a parade downtown. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,

Defenseman Ben Lovejoy held up the Stanley Cup when the team won it in 2009 but as a black ace, he was more of a spectator than participant in that postseason and did not get his name on the Stanley Cup. This time, his name will be inscribed.

“Seven years ago doesn’t count [personally],” Lovejoy said. “I didn’t win it then. … I had a great seat. This is… This is awesome. I feel like I earned this one. Our team earned this one. We came a long way to become the team we are now. It wasn’t easy and this is awesome.”
