On Wednesday, the varsity baseball team pounded out ten hits in a thrilling 8-7 come from behind road victory over rival Choate.
The Big Green erased an early 5-0 deficit with three runs in the 4th inning and five runs in the 5th inning. Deerfield’s offense was led by post-graduate Matt Shea (3-4 3 RBI’s), junior Jack O’Neil (2 RBI’s), junior David Thomas (2 runs scored) and tenth grader Andy Pelc (2 runs scored).
On the mound, junior Matt Gardner earned the win in relief and tenth grader Tommy Leimkuhler registered a six out save.
The victory was a total team effort that included eight hitters registering at least one hit in the game. The win improves the Big Green’s season record to 6-2. Next up is a double-header at home tomorrow, 4/27 vs. Exeter at 1:00pm.
