On Saturday in their season home opener against Cushing Academy, the varsity baseball team captured their first win of the season to improve their overall record to 1-1.
Jared Pantalony pitched a complete game 4 hitter for the win, he struck out 5 batters and the only run Cushing scored was unearned.
The game was tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning when Deerfield broke the game open with 4 runs. The first run came when David Thomas drew a bases loaded walk to put Deerfield ahead 2-1. Mike Bevino came up next and hit a bases clearing triple to left field to break the game open and give Deerfield a 4 run lead. Bevino finished the game with 2 hits and 3 RBI and SS Chris Camelio also picked up 2 hits on the afternoon. Deerfield was sharp all day in the field on a cold, sunny, and windy day.
The Big Green will continue their home stand of games this Wednesday, April 11th as they welcome Taft to the Pioneer Valley. The first pitch is slated for 3:30pm!
